Yorkshire ramps up Tour de France bid

Campaigners behind Yorkshire’s bid to host the Tour de France’s opening stage in future have declared the region ‘financially and logistically ready’ for the race.

Launching an online campaign, which you can lend your support to here, the Gary Verity fronted Welcome to Yorkshire team believes that the ASO are impressed by what the region could bring to the race.

Current plans see the race starting in Leeds city centre, passing through the Yorkshire Dales via some of our most spectacular roads and climbs such as the Butter Tubs Pass. Plans are also afoot for inclusion of the City of York and the idea has been floated of either a sprint or stage finish on the Yorkshire Coast in Scarborough.

James Hall of Yorkshire firm RWD Brakes said of the bid: "This is very real – and could happen a lot sooner than expected, but it’s no time to become complacent. This bid will succeed due to the passion and support of those backing it and I urge you and your respective companies and organisations to join us in supporting Gary Verity and his team of passionate staff every step of the way!"
