Cervelo reveals new S5

Cervelo has launched the new S5 Aero road frame in time for the start of the Tour de France.

The firm says the S5 redefines the aero race bike category, integrating wind tunnel-proven aerodynamics with a balance of stiffness and comfort provide by the BBright bottom bracket.

A dropped downtube smoothes airflow from fork to frame, with smoothly transitioned seat stays engineered to shield the brakes. An extended cutout smoothes airflow from wheel to frame while the BBright Asymmetrical System is stiffer and lighter.

Cervélo’s Thor Hushovd, he who sprinted to a win at the 2010 World Championships riding a Cervélo S3, said: "In the Tour de France, we’ll be racing about 100 hours over three weeks and, thanks to the S5’s aerodynamics, I’ll be saving energy. That will give me an advantage when it comes down to the sprints."
