An electric bike with a built-in SIM card in the frame, providing GPS data and charge info to the rider's smartphone, was among the winners of the 2015 Taipei Cycle d&i Awards.

57 winning entries were announced this week, hailing from 10 countries - not including the UK. Five will get gold awards, to be announced at Taipei Cycle Show's press conference on March 17th (the show runs March 18th to 25th).

While the UK failed to bag a prize, probably due to lack of entries, there were winners from the USA, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, Taiwan and China. International entries were up 37 per cent on 2014.

According to the judges, trends included improving parts or accessories by adding digital features, like the aforementioned SIM-installed e-bike (from Stromer) and a pump that sends the tyre pressure status to a smartphone - the latter being an Airace innovation (on the i Gauge Mini Veloce Road pump).

The Bamboobee bike kit won a prize, Tern won one for its Verge X18, WTB for the Trailblazer and 27.5+ System, Velocite's Venn Rev 35 TCC, Dahon's 4D Quickpark Stem, Birzman's Snap-It Apogee pump valve and Super B's Wheel Truing Stand.

Topeak scored three prizes for its Transformer series of pumps, iGlow accessories and PrepStation Pro. ABUS won for its Innovativ magnetic lock bracket, as did Merida's Reacto Team-E LTD, Ghost's Lector WC MTB and Pacific Cycles' Reach.

More details on the rest of the winners at the Taipei Cycle Show site.
