Cycle Expo Yorkshire gears up for inaugural event - BikeBiz
The expo will take place from 12th-14th October

The Cycle Expo Yorkshire 2018 will take place from 12th-14th October, beginning with a trade day followed by two days for the public.

Having hosted the Tour de France’s Grand Depart in 2014 and the now annual Tour de Yorkshire, the county has also secured the UCI Road World Championships in 2019.

The expo has officially aligned with the UCI to become officially affiliated and will hold the 2019 event on the opening weekend, 21st-23rd September.

Charlotte Scouler from Cycle Expo Yorkshire said: “The new expo will add to a slew of cycling related events in the region in recent years.

“Along with the Tour de Yorkshire and the UCI Road World Championships in 2019, Cycle Expo Yorkshire will continue to build on our cycling legacy attracting thousands of visitors.

“We have already had a great response from local cycle clubs and retailers alike, and hope the rest of the county can get behind us to support the event in true Yorkshire spirit.”

The 2018 event will feature an indoor exhibition with the latest bikes, apparel and accessories, split into a travel zone sponsored by JET2 Holidays, a lifestyle zone, e-bike zone and a ‘Don’t Quit, Do It’ inclusivity zone sponsored by leading law firm Irwin Mitchell.

It will be the first UK cycle show to have a zone dedicated to accessibility and inclusivity in cycling, which will be filled with products, expert advice, communities and support services, and Irwin Mitchell will exhibit alongside recumbent tricycles manufacturer, Ice Trikes, as well as charities Brake and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Visitors to the show will be able to get advice from industry experts, see and test the latest modified bikes and connect with dedicated support groups and communities, including York-based, Get Cycling. The not-for-profit charity will be running a demo ride during the show to allow visitors to test out their wide range of recumbent and adaptive bikes.

Beginners and experts alike are welcome to try out the latest models from bike brands on a variety of terrains, with zones to ride mountain bikes, e-bikes, gravel bikes, road bikes and recumbent bikes.

There will also be a woodland area with off road and MTB guided trails, a road bike demo track, two e-bike tracks and a kids only track, as well as live race action, including a virtual race, a cyclocross race, a closed road crit race and a kids run race.

Visitors will be able to watch experts and riders of all levels show off their freestyle BMX skills in the UK Flatland Championships hosted by Matti Hemmings, and Danny Butler will be performing freestyle tricks on a carbon fibre road bike and Jack Carthy will be performing stunts in partnership with Total Warrior.

HSBC British Cycling and Little Rippers will be on hand to provide fun coaching sessions for younger riders.

Throughout the weekend a host of famous faces in the cycling industry will be attending the show, including Olympian Lizzie Deignan, UCI World Trails Champion Jack Carthy, UCI World Trails Champion and Flatland BMXer Matti Hemmings.

Other names include Charlie Tanfield, Ruby Isaac, Ned Boulting, Neil Campbell, Shanaze Reade and Scott Thwaites.

Scouler added: “The expo is a true celebration of cycling that provides something for everyone, from the amateur to the professional, to road cyclists, mountain bikers, e-bikers and more.

“We see it becoming a yearly event and truly cementing itself as part of the Yorkshire Cycling calendar.”
