Designer Roderick Brosse has won the top award at this weekend's British Invention Show with a minimal mudguard. His "Mud Bug" won the Diamond Award for British Invention of the year at a black-tie awards evening on Friday night.

He has yet to approach any cycle companies to commecialise his patented invention, which works on MTBs as well as road bikes. The Mud Bug features bristles to shed water and road muck.

Brosse claims that his invention "improves safety on slippery surfaces by reducing the surface water in the tyre's path."
