Australian bike blog Cyclingtips.com has signalled its intention to be a serious international player in the news and features space by appointing two Boulder-based cycling writers. Neal Rogers and James Huang are well-known in the industry, joining from Velonews and Cyclingnews respectively.
Cyclingtips has been especially strong on the recent "motor doping" story, and is admired for its insider knowledge of the industry and road cycling. It was founded in 2008 by Canadian bike racer Wade Wallace. It is based in Melbourne.
Before Cyclingnews.com became an international news site, bought by Future Publishing in 2007, it too had small-time beginnings in Australia.
Neal Rogers – pictured – is a former longtime editor of VeloNews.com, and becomes the US editor of Cyclingtips. James Huang (AngryAsian on Twitter) has worked for sister sites Bikeradar and Cyclingnews for 11 years – he becomes the US tech editor for cyclingtips.
Huang said: "CyclingTips offers in-depth feature content, well thought-out approaches to key news stories, and highly detailed tech articles. The focus is currently on the road cycling scene but we also have plans to expand our coverage into the mountain bike world as well."
Cyclingtips has also appointed Mark Gouge as its US sales director. Gouge has sold ads for VeloNews and RoadBikeReview.com.
