The Interlock, a bicycle security system that tucks into a bicycle's seatpost, has been backed with $750,000 funding.

Launched in 2013 by Adrian Solgaard, the design got off to a winning start with a iF Design Gold at last year's Taipei Show. That was followed by a 2014 Eurobike Award - the first ever lock to be awarded as a bicycle component.

A total of US $750,000 from private and institutional investment will give product development and marketing a huge boost. Plans include a ‘product innovation fireworks’ at Eurobike in Germany, the upcoming launch of the new website, and a partnership with well-known industry specialist.

It can now also be announced that Vincent Lamoureux (previously at CamelBak, Met and BionX) is to support the further growth of InterLock with immediate effect as Vice President of Global Sales.

Interlock products are already on sale in 28 countries across the world, and it’s built into bikes by numerous leading OEMs.

Compared to other systems the patented InterLock has many advantages: the lock is always on the bike, rattle-free and with no need for any additional mounting hardware. It’s quick to use: thanks to the clever click mechanism there’s no need to use your key to lock it.

The lock consists of two connected plastic-coated steel cables which offer 90cm of total length. The lock disappears completely inside the 300 mm long 3D forged aluminum seat post and into the frame of the bicycle. It is available in seat post diameters 25.4 mm, 27.2 mm and 31.6 mm, in both black and silver.

The recommended retail price is $59.99 or €59.95 in Europe. A UK specific price has not yet been set.
