New shop snaps up Martyn Hoyle, owner of The Bicycle Company

The Bicycle Company joins with Rockets & Rascals for new Poole store

Plymouth’s Rockets & Rascals Bicycle Emporium and Cafe, has recently blown out the candles on its first birthday cake, opening two cycle hire hubs on Plymouth’s historic waterfront and last month announced the opening of its new store, just off Sandbanks in Poole, Dorset.

The growing retailer has just revealed that it has snapped up Martyn Hoyle, owner of The Bicycle Company, based in Poole Old Town.

"It’s been a great first year," said marketing director Steve Toze. "We never wanted to open just another bike shop, the concept was always about creating something that would reflect the vibe of it’s surroundings and encourage people to get on their bikes and feel the love of cycling. Poole is very much like Plymouth, geographically and culturally there’s definitely a place for Rockets & Rascals and we’re looking forward to opening the doors on our new emporium in May."

Martyn Hoyle, a well known face on the World Cup Downhill Mountain Bike circuit as mechanic on the Santa Cruz Syndicate and Madison Saracen Teams, previously worked for Cannondale, Jungle/Santa Cruz before opening his own store ‘The Bicycle Company’ in Poole Old Town three years ago.

Hoyle added: "It’s great to be joining the team at Rockets & Rascals. As my customers will well know, The Bicycle Company has outgrown its current premises and the timing of the opportunity to join forces couldn’t be better. Everything I have achieved can now take a huge step forward under the Rockets and Rascals brand, not just with the significant investment that is being made to create a landmark destination store, but also knowing that the people I am working alongside want to achieve the same thing."

Martyn takes up the role as General Manager for Rockets & Rascals Poole.

Toze added: "What could be a better story for us? We start off on exactly the right note and rather than watering down the bicycle business in the Poole area we strengthen it. Martyn has experience of the local market, a great reputation, he’s run a great business and he’s really easy to get on with. He knows the local cycling market but he’s also got what’s needed to help evolve the cycling in this area and with new trails planned across the water in Purbeck Hills he’ll continue to be invaluable in adding to the local cycling scene."

Rockets & Rascals Poole is hoped to open late May.
