It's taken ten years but finally women outnumbered men on the Spokes–ahem–men industry podcast

Women outnumber men 4 to 1 on latest industry podcast

The Spokesmen industry roundtable podcast clearly needs a new name. When it was started ten years ago there were more men on the panel than women. On yesterday’s show women outnumber men four to one. The "spokesfolk" podcast is aired every fortnight and has guests from the US and Europe. It is recorded by Skype conference call, and was yesterday hosted by BikeBiz executive editor Carlton Reid, who has been with the show since it started in August 2006.

Show number 136 featured Reid with Donna Tocci, Arleigh Jenkins, Chris Garrison and Anna Schwinn.

Tocci is a social media expert, formerly with Kryptonite locks; Jenkins is a blogger and former bike shop staffer who now works for behaviour change specialist Love to Ride; Garrison was most recently the marketing officer at Trek UK; and Schwinn is a mechanical engineer who has has worked for Zipp and other bike companies and is now a journalist and freelance designer. All four women are American, with Garrison living and working in the UK.

The discussions on yesterday’s show included the lack of publicity for womens’ cycle racing, guerilla marketing in the bike trade, and the future for Interbike.
