Nicole Cooke, the 19-year old cycling sensation from Wales, isn't taking her time to bed into her new life as pro racer. Ho no, she's attacked from the off and won her first race. Looks like we've got a very hot prospect here (not that she wanted much to do with British Cycling's World Class Performance Programme's cash)

Cooke fries the opposition

Cooke is an all-rounder. Last year she won the Junior World Championship jerseys for mountain biking, road racing and time trialling.

Last month she asigned for the Italian pro-women’s team, Deia-Pragma Colnago, after protracted negotiations with British Cycling came to nothing.

VeloNews reports that Cooke won the 12th Trofeo Citta’ Di Rosignano, a major event on the women’s road calendar in Italy.

She dominated the race and won a sprint at the end, beating one-time world champion Rasa Polikeviciute of the H2O-Pasta Zara team.

This Saturday, Cooke is the favourite to win the women’s version of Milan-San Remo, La Primavera Rosa.
