Copenhagenize in book form

Danish-Canadian urbanist Mikael Colville-Andersen has authored a new book based on the concepts expounded in his influential blog Copenhagenize.com. This blog was started in 2007 as a companion to his Copenhagen Cycle Chic blog, and was later the launchpad for Copenhagenize Design Company, an urban design consultancy that has worked for cities around the world.

With more than 200 full-colour photos and graphics, the book offers project descriptions and best practices for making the bicycle part of everyday life. Copenhagenize draws lessons from the successes and failures of Copenhagen as well as Seville, Buenos Aires, Minneapolis, Almetyevsk, and Bordeaux.

Snarky yet engaging, Colville-Andersen tackles the myths that people won’t cycle up hills or in the cold or rain, and offers insights on protected cycleways, and cargo-bike logistics.

Colville-Andersen is no fan of sports cycling, much preferring to promote cycling as normal, everyday transportation.

He is a regular keynote speaker at design and architecture conferences around the world, and is the host of the global television series about urbanism, The Life-Sized City.

Copenhagenize will be published on 30th April by Island Press of Washington, DC.
