Workshop staffer to work at the Olympic Village with Shimano mechanical support team

CRC’s David Tommons selected for London 2012

Chain Reaction Cycles mechanic David Tommons has been selected to work at this year’s London 2012 Olympic Games as part of Shimano’s mechanical support team.

Following a UK-wide application process by Shimano, Tommons will form part of a select team, working with all nationalities in the Olympic Village to keep their bikes running smoothly.

Tommons has worked in the cycle industry for over twenty years and joined CRC just over three years ago. He is a key member of the retailer’s custom wheel building staff based at company headquarters in Doagh, Northern Ireland.

“Dale McMullen, our workshop manager, came round and told me I’d been selected,” said Tommons. "When I submitted my application I didn’t think too much about it. When I realised it wasn’t a dream, it was a bit of a shock to the system!

“To be honest, I’m more worried about a chain breaking. My family and work colleagues are extremely excited and I know I should be more excited myself. Maybe it comes with age, but a week with Shimano in London…at the Olympics? That’s just fantastic. I might even get in some sightseeing.”
