Cycle Law Scotland supports blind cyclist’s 750-mile fundraiser

A specialist legal firm representing cyclists injured in road traffic collisions is backing blind Scot Ken Reid’s bid to cycle to all four UK capital cities this summer.

The fundraiser will support readers with sight loss by providing them with more audiobooks. Reid hopes to raise £7,500 in aid of the Royal National Institute of Blind People’s Talking Book Service.

Cycle Law Scotland is sponsoring the first leg of the 750-mile tandem journey, which will start in Edinburgh and head to Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, Cardiff, and finally London. Throughout the journey, Reid will be accompanied by a series of co-pilots, including the firm’s founder, Brenda Mitchell, who will set off with him from Edinburgh on July 29th 2016.

Mitchell, a passionate cyclist herself, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Ken. He has set himself an incredible challenge, and we wish him every success with his fundraising. We will set him on his way and closely follow his progress as he completes his journey.”

Reid, who ran a half marathon in March as part of his fitness training, added: “30 years ago, I was told that I was going blind. I had to give up riding my bike, and reading books. I now ride a tandem and read audiobooks. They will come together when I ride 750 miles in aid of RNIB’s Talking Book Service, which has changed my life.

“I’m extremely grateful for the backing of Cycle Law Scotland for this stage of my challenge. Such positive support to the venture will be a huge boost to my confidence as I roll out of Edinburgh on July 29th, along with any other cyclists who can manage along.”
