The Encycleopedia Try-out in York last May attracted around 3000 people (at £7 a pop). But the demise of Open Road means the show will no longer be run.
The product catalogue will produced again by Alan Davidson and he’s staging a road show for interested IBDs.
"During the last week of June, and throughout July, we will be going around the country to promote Encycleopedia with a mobile exhibition of around 30 of the products from the next edition," says Davidson.
Of course, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. To get the products on your doorstep, costs. But you get the print Encycleopedias thrown in.
The deal is this: buy a minimum of 20 of the new Encycleopedia 2002 at £8 each (RRP £12); a minimum of 10 of the new Encycleopedia 2002 CD at £8 + vat each (RRP £12); and pay a separate £30 + vat fee for a listing in the book.
The money is paid in two halves: £160 straight away and the balance on receipt of the CDs in September.
"We will promote the Encycleopedia Dealer Roadshow evenings as part of a mail order, colour leaflet campaign to our list of more than 6,000 known Encycleopedia customers. The first 750 orders received with a completed Roadshow Application Form will automatically be allocated, subject to availability, to the dealer most convenient to their preferred first choice. We will also supply the participating dealers with 50 leaflets each to hand
out locally," says Davidson.
"This system will help us make direct sales as well as promoting sales through dealers.
We want these Encycleopedia evenings to be intensive, one-to-one affairs, and we are keen therefore to limit the total number of guests per evening to a manageable level. The actual number will depend on the individual dealer but we would envisage around fifteen per evening."
