Siva’s Atom bike-powered generator sought to raise $85,000 on Kickstarter so is guaranteed funding when the project ends on May 23rd. The generator is a bolt-on dynamo USB charger that can power a smartphone, lights, and removable battery pack as you ride, or when off the bike. The product is the creation of Aaron Latzke and David Delcourt of San Francisco, in partnership with product launcher Greenway International.
The Atom is a lightweight bicycle generator and rechargeable battery pack designed to power devices via USB and quickly mounts on and off most standard bicycle frames. The battery pack can be detached, too.
"The Atom is for the modern commuter cyclist, the urban biker, the weekend rider, the gadget lover, the green fanatic, and anyone that’s ever needed a charge on the go," said a blurb on Kickstarter.
One in ten of the devices will be donated to projects in the developing world, where power outlets are rarer.
Latzke is a mechanical engineer, with experience designing and building metrology tools for the semi-conductor industry. Delcourt is product developer in the energy and environmental sectors. He was co-founder and COO of MakeMeSustainable.com of Boston, which he sold in 2011.
