BikeBiz gets its hands on a bit of history ahead of the publication of an interview with the now Sunrace owned brand

Blast from the past: Sturmey Archer’s 1953 Coronation advert

Sturmey Archer has passed to BikeBiz its celebratory advert published in cycling press some 60 years ago to celebrate the coronation of the Queen.

The text at the base of the advert promotes seeing the celebrations by bike and journeying around the country in a ‘historic year’:

"Decorated streets of cities, towns and villages… symbols of the nation’s loyalty and love for our young Queen, express the joy of a great occasion. This is the year in which to see historic England. In this year of celebration, the beauties of our ancient land can be seen so easily, so economically, so leisurely, so pleasantly, on a bicycle."

BikeBiz’s July print edition, mailing at the end of the month, will carry an interview with Sturmey Archer which will carry yet more iconic advertising from the brand, as well as an update on the present day business.

In the meantime, you can see plenty more at the brand’s dedicated heritage site, here.
