Garmin has expanded its collection of Edge GPS cycling computers with three new models, including one with Strava-compatibility.
The Edge 520 comes in as a mid-range unit with built-in Strava, while the Edge 25 and Edge 20 are the world’s smallest cycling computers designed for simplicity and ease of use, according to the brand.
Edge 520
Edge 520 builds on the Edge 500 and 510 and is the first device with Strava live segment challenges. This aerodynamic GPS bike computer is packed with analysis features like time in zone, cycling-specific VO2 max and recovery time, indoor trainer support, cycling dynamics and in-ride challenges through Strava and Garmin Connect segments. Connected features include live tracking, smart notifications and automatic uploads to Garmin Connect. Edge 520 integrates with compatible Shimano Di2 electronic shifting systems and additional ANT+ sensors. It’s compatible with GPS and GLONASS satellites, to benefit from more signal options, wherever the ride.
Garmin said: "Incorporating Strava live segments into the Edge 520 is a big step forward for those riders wishing to push themselves and closely analyse performance. It will offer live feedback when in the moment and even monitor live rides with previous rides to keep a close eye on progress."
Edge 20 and Edge 25
At the entry-level range, the world’s smallest GPS cycling computers – the Edge 20 and Edge 25 – are GPS + GLONASS-enabled bike computers track how far, how fast and where riders are. They are durable and small in size, making them ideal for travel and ideal for training and everyday riding.
The Edge 25 adds ANT+ and Bluetooth. They can be paired with additional sensors for heart rate and cadence and with a compatible device via Bluetooth for live tracking with automatic uploads to Garmin Connect. This allows users to see the ride on a map, analyse and share it. The courses feature allows users to follow new rides, challenge times on previous rides or download rides from other Connect users for virtual competition.
Garmin Connect is the free online community where users can save, plan and share – to create courses and send them to Edge 520, Edge 25 or Edge 20. Users will see a complete picture of activities, including elevation profiles, mapping and more.
The Edge 520, Edge 25 and Edge 20 bring the range up to seven models, joining the Edge Touring/Plus, Edge 510, Edge 810 and Edge 1000. All three models will be available from August at authorised Garmin dealers and from www.madison.co.uk.
