Company grows with purchase of cycle parts supplier

Oxford Products acquires Sprint

Oxford Products is to expand its range and offer products unique to the cycle trade following the purchase of cycle parts supplier Sprint CPA. The deal was made June 3rd 2010.

Since 1973 – when Oxford Products was formed by current chairman Alec Hammond – the firm has offered universal products, including locks, luggage, helmets, lighting, reflective clothing and a handful of accessories. Through the recent acquisition, Oxford will now offer a range that is cycle-specific in addition to its other product lines.

“Combining Oxford’s universal, consumer-focused product range with Sprint’s wider parts portfolio makes complete sense,” explained Andrew Hammond, Oxford’s MD. “We can essentially provide the wholesale network with the majority of the products they require to service the cycle trade.”

Since being established by John Lambdon in 1990, Sprint has provided a wide range of parts and bolt-on accessories to the cycle trade. Lambdon has handed the reigns of the business over to Oxford, moving the operation to Oxford’s expanded distribution facility. The firm promises supply will be uninterrupted and will continue as before, with Oxford’s cycle guru and industry veteran Martin Sykes steering it forwards.

Sykes said: “It will be business as usual for our customers, albeit with more profit opportunities than ever before. Orders previously placed with Sprint will simply be placed with Oxford and invoices will have our name at the top, instead of Sprint’s.”

He added: “We have a great deal of work to do over the following weeks to integrate John’s excellent product range into Oxford’s business model. However, the result is a win-win for Oxford and the cycle trade and the potential for growth is very exciting. The cycle industry has a bright future and we regard it as one of the most important elements of our ongoing growth and success."
