Recently set up importer Southern Distributors is bringing three brands to the cycle trade – Soma, Abbey Bike Tools and Flexroute cable guides.
The brand new business paired up with the trio of brands after being connected with them before the distribution business was set up.
Southern Distributors’ Ben Thomson explained to BikeBiz: "We have been selling Abbey Tools through our retail business, Ben Thomson’s Cycleworx, for the last eight months. I felt there was a strong enough need in the market for a business devoted solely to the importation of brands I believe in, so came Southern Distributors.
"I have been working in the trade since I was 17. I started in my native New Zealand and have worked in bike shops all over the world: New Zealand, Australia and then UK. I then opened my own bike shop – Ben Thomson’s Cycleworx in 2007 and it’s going very well."
Through the retail business Thomson has sold Soma frames since 2011 and "bought a few Abbey Tools for our workshop use and fell in love with them. Flexroute cable guides are also a very unique product so we got on board with them as well."
