Research by the Beijing office of the Freedonia Group has suggested that electric bike sales may overtake the motorcycle in China.
Bike Europe reports that the market is to grow ‘11.0 percent per annum through 2014 to 31.6 million units’. That figure would mean the electric bike is turning over higher numbers than the same long term forecast for the motorcycle market.
The study by the reasearch group, titled ‘Motorcycles in China’ and available as a full 259-page report for $5,300, states that electric bikes are doing particularly well in rural and semi-rural areas of the country. In urban areas, the electric motorcycle is touted as the main seller.
