The forth annual Cyclosport Industry Ride and Lunch took place in Twickenham yesterday, with the team behind the RideLondon 100 collecting an Industry Award for its contribution to cycling.
Presenting the award to Mick Bennett, the director of the Boris-backed sportive, Cyclosport organiser Adam Tranter said: "RideLondon has been one of the key highlights for cycling in 2013. It was a huge project that has really shown the mass appeal of cycling in the UK. The cycling industry as a whole is moving forward at a blistering pace and events like RideLondon really engage our nation of cyclists in a brilliant way – the event is a major change in the landscape of participation cycling and long may it continue getting bigger and better."
15,883 cyclists completed the 2013 RideLondon 100, while 80,000 people signed up to the 2014 instalment inside 27 days.
160 members of the trade gathered for the 39-mile ride, which took in the views from atop Box Hill, followed by a lunch and informal networking session.
The ride was lead out by group one of four, which included riders such as Dean Downing, Matt Stephens, Yanto Barker and Magnus Backstedt, each of whom later on addressed guests on the progress they feel cycling has made in the public domain.
