The world’s smallest velodrome -Red Bull’s famed Mini Drome – is to return to London during March.
York Hall in West London will be the venue this time around, hosting the 25 metre track (circumference) on March 17th and 18th, the latter date being the finals for those who triumphed in qualification.
Ricky Crompton, who has competed at five Red Bull Mini Drome events to date said: "The Red Bull Mini Drome is a main event on my 2012 competition calendar. I’m now hooked on the intensity of each race, the respect I gained and the feeling of success. Now armed with experience, I’ve developed my cornering technique and fitness level. I’m really looking forward to the much anticipated 2012 London event where the level of racing is at its best and the atmosphere is crazy, the 2011 London round was a huge eye opener for the UK and proved the love for fixed gear riding.”
The track is just 14 meters long and 1.8 meters wide, meaning the corners are incredibly tight and can cause problems at speed.
Qualifying is now open to over 400 competitors. Riders will be timed using The Velotrack Timing System. The racers with the quickest time across the ten laps will progress through the competition to the main event on Sunday 18th march. On the main event day, from the time trials the 32 fastest will be entered into the single pursuit knockout round.
The event will be open to riders of all levels, disciplines and ages and is free to apply. York Hall has a 500 spectator capacity and is free to all public on a first come, first served basis.
