Prologue Performance Cycling aims to be a road cycling hub for the town

Road bike shop opens in Harrogate in time for Yorkshire Grand Depart

Harrogate’s newly opened Prologue Performance Cycling is offering expert coaching, scientific fitness testing, state-of-the-art bike fitting, a workshop offering custom-builds, servicing and repairs, and a treatment room for cycle-specific therapies.

Despite being located close to the finishing line of Stage one of this year’s Tour de France, the opening coming a few months before the Grand Depart was just a coincidence, the bike shop founder said.

Prologue Performance Cycling offers in-store events including workshops and talks held by athletes and industry experts. Free organised rides tour a wealth of stunning cycling routes in North Yorkshire.

There’s also be a cycling café, showing live cycling or iconic footage from the past, serving as a meeting space for groups, clubs and friends to gather pre-, during or post-ride and enjoy lunch or coffee and cake sourced from North Yorkshire producers.

James Lovell of Harrogate’s Cappuccino Cycling Club said: "The opening of Prologue Performance Cycling in Harrogate is fantastic news for all road cyclists. Members of our Club have said Harrogate can do with a cyclists’ hub and Prologue will perform that role brilliantly. The coffee and cakes are already a big hit with our members!”

Founder John Reid said: “Riding a bike isn’t a simple sport. It’s a science – especially if you plan on doing it fast. The drive to improve performance is not confined to the elite cyclists anymore.

“Running out of energy gels, not have a spare tube, my rear light not working, looking for a cyclist-friendly café en route, nursing a sore knee or a rubbing front mech’ while watching Paris Roubaix with my cycling friends.

“Prologue is not an idea conceived because of a certain great event coming to Yorkshire – but I must admit the timing isn’t bad.”
