Fisher snaps up Limar and Melon helmets

Fisher Outdoor has taken on distribution for two European helmet brands – Melon and Limar.

German brand Melon first launched at Eurobike in 2013. The all-round lifestyle brand is targeted at urban sports riders and style conscious commuters and is set to exceed 100,000 units of global sales in its first year.

Blending style with functionality, Melon incorporates a high-tech in-mould shell unique to the category with an urban active shape and made with extra strong polycarbonate whilst remaining 30 per cent lighter than typical urban helmets, BikeBiz is told.

The “no brain, no game” brand has over 30 designs, some of which have won them awards across the industry including the Oscar of the International Bike Industry at Eurobike, 2013.

Fisher said prices hit £49.99 with attractive dealer margins, original Melon tree displays and Fisher promotional support, with a range catering to the urban, commuter and skate markets.

Meawhile, Limar has been creating cycle helmets for over 28 years and boasts what it says is the world’s lightest helmet range.

The in-mould process created by the brand reduces weight whilst increasing impact resistance and product life. All the products are designed in Italy and over the years the brand has earned some prestigious awards including the iF’s Product Design Award and the Parola D’Impresa prize. The range caters for all genres from kids, enthusiasts and recreational cyclists to road, MTB and commuter riders.

Despite their differences, they share a passion for quality and design and we believe they offer UK IBDs a terrific opportunity both in terms of brand and product quality along with strong commercial packages. These two additions to our portfolio are the first of seven new brand launches that we have coming between now and Christmas so it’s a very exciting time for the development of our portfolio.”

Limar and Melon joins other brands in Fisher’s helmet category, including MTB-focused Troy Lee Designs.

Despite significant growth, due to many years of investment and commitment to the brand we have come to the difficult decision that moving forwards the supplier is unable to meet our expectations, with new ranges demonstrating a lack of innovation and style. Whilst we have worked hard to market the brand effectively within the UK marketplace, we are disappointed that the product is not being promoted at the required level internationally to compete with other brands. We wish Limar all the best for the future and have ensured enough stock is still available to support our dealers for the remainder of this season.
