The cycle trade in increasingly dabbling in the growing market

Fitness wearables sector will be worth $10 billion by 2020

The fitness wearables sector will generate over $10 billion in hardware revenues by 2020, up from around $3.3 billion this year, according to Juniper Research.

It’s a genre of product that the cycle industry is increasingly stepping into, with multiple brands now offering smart glasses and the likes of Sigma and Trek among those offering fitness wearables. In fact it is those wrist-based tracker sales that are driving the wearables market, according to Juniper.

Smart clothing is to become an important part of watching sports in the future, the report adds, with NFL – for example – already working with Microsoft and Zebra Technologies to visualise data for fans.

There’s more on the intriguing topic on the Juniper site and of course a link to a paid-for in-depth report.
