New helmet is 'lightest full featured helmet available'

Giro reveals Aeon helmet

Helmet brand Giro has released the sleek, ultra-low weight Aeon, set to debut with Team Garmin-Cervelo, Rabobank Cycling Team and Team Radioshack.

Set to be available to consumers and retailers from June, the Aeon will come in three sizes and eight colourways, featuring outstanding ventilation, according to Giro.

The new helmet was shown off at the weekend’s Tour of Flanders.

“After 25 years of continuous refinement, it isn’t easy to make significant leaps in performance without compromising features,” said Greg Shapleigh, senior VP for Giro and Easton Cycling.

“But we took the leading attributes of our best helmets and applied our best technologies and ideas about design, and optimized every component. The result is the Aeon, a full featured helmet with the same category defining ventilation of the Ionos, but 25 per cent less weight.”

Ventilation for the helmet has been enhanced by having the minimum contact points with the head, which also allows use of lower density EPS foam for 15 per cent weight savings. 24 big Wind Tunnel channelled vents force air through the helmet while riding. The Aeon also features Giro’s internal reinforcement techo Thermoformed SL Roll cage, helping maintain the protective structure of the helmet in the event of impact.

The Aeon is available to the trade via Madison.
