INFO SUPPLIED BY GORE RIDE ON:
W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of specific styles GORE® RIDE ON® Low Friction Brake and Professional Brake Cables. A list of affected part numbers is given below.
This recall does not pertain to Derailleur/Shift cables. An issue has been identified at Gore’s supplier which has lead to this action. When the affected cables are installed in a brake lever using the Campagnolo® style termination, it is possible that the termination end of the cable may detach from the cable. There has been only one report of such detachment and no injuries have been reported.
However, because the safety and quality of products is paramount to Gore, the company is halting sales and initiating a voluntary recall of all affected brake cables. These brake cables were sold from January 2008 to January 2012 with two termination options—Campagnolo style and Shimano®/SRAM® style.
Those cables installed with the Shimano/SRAM style termination are not affected, and require no action. Bikes on which the GORE RIDE ON Low Friction Brake Cables or GORE RIDE ON Professional Brake Cables have been installed using the Campagnolo style terminations should not be ridden until the cables have been replaced. Those affected by this recall should contact an authorized bike shop where the cables can be replaced.
Gore will provide the bike shop with a free replacement kit thru their distributors.
The affected part numbers are: ROLFBREA, ROLFBREA-B, ROLFBREA-W, ROLFBREA-U, ROLFBREA-R, ROPRBREA-B, ROPRBREA-W, ROPRBREA-U, ROPRBREA-R
This recall only affects cables sold under the GORE® RIDE ON® brand and designe to work with Campagnolo group-sets.
The recall does not include cable sets manufactured by Campagnolo or any other manufacturer. This recall does not include cables sets sold under the SRAM® RED® brand or SRAM® Professional Brake products.
Gore has reported this voluntary recall to RAPEX, which is the EU rapid alert system for non-food products that might pose risks to consumers. RAPEX facilitates the rapid exchange of information between Member States and the EU Commission on the measures taken to prevent or restrict the marketing or use of such products.
