Halfords has announced Jill McDonald, formerly head of McDonald’s UK business, as the new CEO.
Taking the reigns from Matt Davies, who departed two months ago, McDonald begins her role at the helm on May 11th.
Halfords’ most-recent trading update suggested the retail giant was slowly building on its strengths, with a 6.5 per cent rise in revenues in the 15 weeks to January 9th. The chain has also recently relaunched the Cycle Republic off-shoot, of which it says there could eventually be 100 stores nationwide.
Dennis Millard, Halford’s Chairman told the FT: "I’m really excited that we have attracted someone of Jill’s Calibre who will build on what we’ve achieved over the past few years and we all really look forward to working with her."
McDonald added: "Halfords is a business and brand that resonates with me and the UK public and I am delighted to be joining. Halfords has already made significant progress in delivering its service-led growth strategy and I look forward to joining such a strong team to continue to build on that success."
McDonald will be paid a £500,000 a year salary and a bonus share award of up to 150 per cent of her salary, according to the FT. A further £165,000 will be paid in compensation for her share options at McDonalds.
