The first time Future staged an award’s bash during The Bike Show, dinner-suited downhillers, including Steve Peat, had food fights and tried to heckle comedian, Mark Lamaar. His classic put-downs eventually calmed them down but the experience discouraged Future from staging similar posh events for the cycle market.
Haymarket, now the owner of the show started by Future, believe they can keep a lid on boisterous behaviour and so have announced their own awards bash, the British Bike Awards.
These awards are being held in partnership with MBUK, What Mountain Bike, Cycling Plus, British Cycling, and Ride Magazine. BicycleBusiness is providing a trade consultancy service for the awards (recommending, for instance, strait-jackets for DHers and BMXers).
Gavin Brown, MD of Haymarket Exhibitions said:
"We are delighted to be hosting the BBAs alongside The Bike Show, the UK’s largest consumer cycling event, which will provide the perfect backdrop for the industry to recognise the astounding achievements over the past year.”
Peter Stothard, publisher of MBUK, What Mountain Bike and Cycling Plus said: “The cycling industry put an amazing amount of effort into developing new products. These awards give us the chance to celebrate those efforts and our publications will ensure that the results are communicated to the widest audience of cycling enthusiasts.”AWARD CATEGORIES
