Range will go on sale in August

Ikea to sell bikes in the UK

Sources have confirmed to BikeBiz that Ikea will be retailing bikes in the UK, with the range expected to go on sale in August.

Ikea has 19 stores across the nation, with the 20th opening in Reading in the near future. They’re relatively evenly spread throughout the UK, with two in Scotland, one in Wales and most in or near the Midlands.

Details of which bikes will be sold by the popular retailer here in Blighty have yet to be confirmed, but it seems likely it will be the single ‘Sladda’ model named by Bike Europe, available in 26-inch or 28-inch versions.

Interestingly, Ikea has priced the bike at €499 (approx £398) or €699 (approx £557) for non-members, indicating that it is not targeting the value end of the market some may have expected.

It remains to be seen whether Ikea will be installing a bike workshop or a rudimentary fitting service for shops – details will no doubt emerge closer to August.

Ikea’s interest in bikes is not entirely new. road.cc reported it would retail e-bikes in Vienna back in 2014.
