Islabikes launches Icons range aimed at over-65s

Children’s bike brand Islabikes has launched a new range of bikes aimed at over-65s.

The new range, named Icons, features three models that aim to “revolutionise how we think about cycling in later life”.

Isla Rowntree said: “Older people have been ignored, much like children pre-2006. I want to prolong their cycling lives so they can continue to enjoy physical health, psychological wellbeing and those vital social connections that come from riding with friends.”

The range features three models named after musical icons of the 60s, the Joni (Mitchell), Janis (Joplin) and Jimi (Hendrix).

The Joni features a low step-over design, weighs 11 kilograms and features a low gear utilising an 11-40T 8sp cassette paired with a 32T chainring. It also features Gripshift and SRAM hydraulic disc brakes.

It is also fitted with Islabikes’ Easy-Tyre-Change wheelset, and also features Gripshift and SRAM DB Level TL hydraulic disc brakes.

The Jimi weighs 9.9 kilograms and features a low-stepover frame. It has low gearing with an 11-40T 10sp cassette, Direct Mount 26T narrow-wide chainring, Gripshift and SRAM DB Level TL hydraulic disc brakes.
