Activate Cycle Academy are the UK’s foremost training organisation for Cytech commercial, and Apprenticeship based Cycle Mechanic Training. Due to continued high demand and an internal vacancy we are seeking to recruit a new Dual Role Training Officer / Workshop Trainer to look after a caseload of Apprentices in the SW of England and also to provide occasional cover at our Oxford Cytech Workshop. This position is a fixed contract and will be reviewed at the end of that period – based on the ongoing demand for Training.
Ideally qualified to Cytech Technical Three – or equivalent – and with TAQA / PTLLS qualifications (or prepared to work towards) you will be based most of your time from home, looking after a caseload of between 20 and 35 Apprentices within your area, visiting them face to face every 12 weeks and via remote means every 6 weeks – and to offer additional support and visits as needed. You will be responsible for all aspects of their training and to ensure that they meet all progress targets on their program, including 121 Functional Skills (Maths and English) training and provision. The Cycles Team has an overall completion rate of 90% and a timely completions rate of 85%, we expect you to take pride in your abilities and to aim to deliver outstanding service to our Learners.
Additionally, you will be required to support your base workshop – Oxford – on an ad hoc basis – to cover for sickness and holidays, delivering Cytech Technical One and Two training as well as Home Mechanic and other courses from the workshop, we expect you to take pride in your abilities and to aim to deliver outstanding service to our Learners.
You will need to be a self-motivated and flexible person of some experience within the Cycle Industry and to be both passionate and knowledgeable about all types of bikes. You will have a good ‘coaching style’ of training and a deep understanding of how the Cycle Industry functions and the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours that are needed to be successful within the Industry. You will also have good attention to detail and the ability to manage your workload, to keep robust records of your training courses, your learner visits and learner progress, and to ensure that all required evidence is gathered and processed from your learners in a timely manner.
Travel will be a normal part of your working day and flexibility in terms of your working hours will be required in order to deliver the excellent levels of service that our Employers and Learners have come to expect. Travel expenses will be paid at the rate of 45p per mile for the first 10000 miles, and 25p per mile after that. Accommodation can be booked where any visit is needed more than 2 hours from your home – although efficient ways of working to minimise travel and accommodation needs is a given.
You will be required to attend twice yearly Standardisation / Training and Team Meetings at one of our workshops (Oxford, Merrist Wood and Stafford) and to participate in monthly 121 and occasional remote catchups with the team. You will have personal input into the ongoing design and delivery of the Cytech Training delivery and into the Cycle Mechanic Apprenticeship Standard delivery and be an advocate not only for our business but also for Cycling in general.
Occasional weekend working may be required, along with occasional PR activity such as attending Bike Shows, you may also be required to undertake field based commercial Cytech assessments.
Pay scale £26-29k qualified + expenses (travel, accommodation and subsistence when away from home) A computer and mobile phone and a uniform will be provided. Full training in how to deliver both workshop training and how to manage your caseload will be provided during a robust and comprehensive induction.
