Are you a passionate cyclist with a flare for sales, entrepreneurial drive and proven management skills in a cycling or similarly technical, multi-channel retail environment? Pedalworks is an independent bike retailer with a large store, burgeoning online platform and a fantastic reputation for quality service. If you are ready for your next step and share our ambition, we want to hear from you: we are looking for a key member of the team to lead the store, grow online sales and take Pedalworks to the next stage of growth.

About the Role

There are three key dimensions to the role:

Sales

Developing sales leads, representing a technical product range, making confident recommendations suited to customer’s needs and closing sales are all key elements to this role. You will enjoy the support of the Workshop Manager and enthusiastic Sales Assistants, but you will have primary responsibility for driving sales and revenues. Together with the Pedalworks’ owner and director, you will set sales targets and develop the offering in line with customer trends.

Store Management

Our Manager will take a holistic approach to maintaining the store, understanding that a well-run operation underpins all our other activities. Directing merchandising and display, co-ordinating ordering and supplier relations, supervising and coaching staff, overseeing prompt and efficient after-sales support and despatch, liaising with customers and promptly resolving difficulties: these are core. The Store Manager will be expected to make home deliveries and pick-ups from time to time.

Digital Marketing and E-commerce

Investing in our digital presence, optimising for online searches and managing our e-commerce platform to be effective and competitive are all a crucial part of the role. Responding to unprecedented demand from Covid 19 has kept us busy this season, but we expect to return to a project to upgrade our platform. This represents a major development for Pedalworks and our Store Manager will need to be down in the detail as well as driving the big picture.

About You

You might be in a similar role and seeking a fresh challenge. Or perhaps you are working as an Assistant Store Manager or Retail Sales Manager. If you currently work in outdoor sales or another segment, we can induct and support the right candidate.

First, your motivations and drives. You will be a great communicator and relationship manager, and enjoy working with our customers to help them realise their aspirations and discover new pleasures in their cycling. You will be totally comfortable in sales mode and be results-focused, shaping sales opportunities and following them through to completion. You will naturally pay attention to the details that support a happy customer experience and efficient operations, but be excited about the opportunity to build on Pedalworks’ success. Covid 19 has increased demand for affordable hybrids and mountain bikes, e-bikes continue to attract growing interest and online marketing and sales continue to be critical for a successful, modern bike shop. Growing these offerings, together with specialist bike sales and fitting services, will be highly motivating.

On experience, it is likely you have several years of relevant retail experience, but we also recognise the value of candidates with a minimum 2 years’ direct experience and other, related career paths. Experience of digital marketing and e-commerce is a must: managing product information and back-end, integrating sales and marketing, optimising our website and online marketing, pricing and promotions. You will have curiosity and capacity to grow.

Key skills and knowledge:

 Enthusiasm and familiarity with a range of styles of cycling, bikes, components, accessories and clothing. Capacity to learn about our full product range;
 Understanding of the needs and expectations of a wider range of cyclists from the novice to the highly informed and exacting. Ability to listen and make judgments, formulate appropriate proposals and recommendations, deliver an exceptional level of customer service and coach colleagues to do so too;
 Excellent communications skills, ability to adapt style to a range of customers and motivations. Ability to recognise a sales opportunity, lead the discussion and close sales;
 Ability to co-ordinate logistics, lot of moving parts, anticipate timelines and costs and manage expectations;
 Familiarity and dexterity with a suite of software typical in a modern retail environment: EPOS, databases, workshop booking, e-commerce platforms, website, social media;
 Ability to manage, motivate and give feedback to staff;
 Complete reliability, honesty and integrity;
 Capacity to continuously learn and adapt;
 Enthusiasm for working with energy and pace.

You will need to be a confident and able driver, with a clean UK driving licence.

About the Business

Pedalworks was established in 2011 with a vison and an ambition to inspire more people to ride bikes. We believe in the benefits cycling can bring to individuals and to communities, and the role a great store can play. We really do put our customers at the centre of everything we do, catering for local and international racers to e-bike enthusiasts, off-road riders and the children and adults buying their first bike.
