JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Sales & Cycle Mechanic

Responsible to: Bike Workshop Manager

Purpose of the Post:

To support the Julian House Bike Workshop and shop, providing a point of contact for donations, cycle repair and servicing, advice and sale of cycles to the public. To work with Service Users, Volunteers and other staff to help develop the business

Principle Areas of Accountability

Service Delivery:

· Service and repair of customer bikes to a high standard

· Refurbishment and renovation of used bikes for resale to the public

· To receive donated cycles from members of the public and other organisations

· To ensure that new deliveries of cycles are logged using agreed administrative systems

· To price donated and repaired bikes ready for sale to the general public

· To offer service and repair of bikes to customers at the workshop

· To ensure that all bikes sold, serviced or repaired are safety checked to agreed standard before leaving the shop

· To ensure that necessary levels of parts and other stock are ordered and accounted for

· To ensure the security and safe running of the workshop, including opening and closing the

· workshop, operating of till and cashing up

· Support with the setting up and running of on-line shop, website and social media

· To engage positively and politely with members of the general public who access the workshop

Service User Involvement:

· Work with Service User Volunteers to induct and train them in skills relevant to working within the Bike Workshop

· Assess the work of newly referred Service User Volunteers and agree with them a pattern of attendance at the Bike Workshop

· In partnership with the Social Enterprise Development Worker and where relevant a key worker, support individual Service Users in becoming "job ready" and in taking up education, training and employment opportunities

· Support Service Users to make a valuable contribution to the development of the bike workshop

· To maintain effective and safe boundaries for Service Users within the workshop and to deny access to those who are not fit to volunteer

Staff & Volunteers

· Work alongside other staff and volunteers to ensure the safe and effective running of the bike workshop

· Feedback to Volunteer Coordinator any issues arising from volunteer involvement at the workshop

· Feedback to Volunteer Coordinator positive stories and aspects of volunteer work

Team Work

Work with other members of the team, including supervisor and manager, to ensure the effective running and continued development of the bike workshop

Administration and Finance

· To use agreed administrative systems to ensure that stock, including parts and cycles are managed and accounted for

· Using agreed paperwork ensure that pre-sale/post repair cycle checklists are completed and signed

· To safely handle and record money received for sale or repair of bikes, including end of day banking procedures

· Maintain an accurate record of petty cash expenditure

· To sign authorisations for volunteer expenses claims

· To maintain own time sheet accurately in line with existing Julian House procedures

Health and Safety:

Work at all times within the Health & Safety legislation and within safety guidelines established for the workshop

Personal Development:

Actively participate in regular supervision and annual appraisal, contributing to the identification of own and team training needs

Undertake agreed training as directed

General:

· Be familiar and work within Julian House policies and procedure

· Uphold the Julian House Equal Opportunities Policy

· Carry out, within reason, any other duties necessary to the smooth running of the service
