The Enquirer claims the rescue took place in Santa Monica, not exactly the mugger capital of the US.
According to the US mag, Armstrong was cycling with a friend when he saw the mugging and gave chase. A mugger on foot is not likely to out-run any decently fit cyclist so it was tough luck he committed his crime in front of the still-fast Tour de France seven times winner.
The report – unconfirmed as yet and very possibly a fabrication – says the mugger made a get away after Armstrong handed the purse back to the female victim.
