Consultation showed huge public support for Cycle Superhighway 9, reveals Transport for London

If Transport for London listens to those who responded to its consultation for the cycle superhighway through Chiswick then West London will get a 6km protected cycleway from Kensington Olympia to Brentford. Almost 60 percent of respondents backed the plans, says a TfL press statement.

TfL received 5,388 responses to the consultation, 58.9 percent "strongly supported" the proposals. 38 percent didn't.

The route would be built on major thoroughfares Hammersmith Road, Chiswick High Road, Brentford High Street and Kew Bridge Road allowing cyclists to bypass the Hammersmith Gyratory.

The mood music looks good. London's walking and cycling commissioner Will Norman said: "It's great news that our plans to improve cycling in west London have been backed by Londoners."

The plans will now be "developed further," said Norman.
