Cycling and walking tour operator Macs Adventure has recorded a 124 per cent year-on-year increase in bookings for its cycling tours.

Neil Lapping, chief adventure officer and founder of Macs Adventure, who will be a panelist at the WTM blogger and tour operator event on Tuesday 4 November at 14.00 in the South Gallery 23-26 said: “2014 has been a great year for activity-based holidays. Our customers return to us time and again as we arrange outstanding walking and cycling holidays for anyone who enjoys authentic experiences, rewarding challenges, active adventures and relaxing breaks. We have holidays that span abilities and experiences and we truly believe in ‘adventure for all.’ This year we’ve seen our customers becoming more adventurous, enjoying more luxurious accommodation and mixing their active days with gourmet experiences. For next year we are already seeing a demand for long-haul itineraries, and we are delighted that we will be able to meet that with an ever-more exciting collection.”

Popular cycle bookings include tours of the Great Glen Way, as well as slower paced trips that take in a vineyard or two.

Last year tour operator mark Warner also invested £41,000 in new bikes following a huge surge in demand for two-wheel tours.

Meanwhile, cycle accomodation site Beds for cyclists had gathered a list of over 650 bike friendly hosts in its first 12 months in business.
