The 2014 Champions of CycleSport Dinner raised an incredible sum of around £200,000 to help sick babies and children.

Now in its fifth year and once again heavily supported by cycle celebs, sponsors and those donating raffle items, the evening was hosted once again by Sky News anchor Dermot Murnaghan, himself a keen cyclist who’s participated in various rides for Action Medical Research.

In raising the grand total, attendees bidded on generously donated items including Team Sky Kids Bike designed by Frog and signed by Team Sky, a Ride with Team Sky at their Majorca training camp in January 2015, a Dogma Pinarello Team Sky bike signed by Sir Dave Brailsford CBE, a Ride out for four people with David Millar in Gerona (including flights), a Track Days for 10 people at the London Olympic Velodrome with Jody Cundy MBE and a signed Tour of California Jersey signed by Bradley Wiggins.

Artist Paul Oz had created a detailed portrait of Sir Dave Brailsford CBE which raised £4,000 and for something a little different – Smeg UK donated a fridge (the same model as the one appearing in the Paddington Movie, in cinemas now) but also incorporating a one-off Richard Mitchelson design of classic cyclists, which went for £2,600!

David Brailsford said of the evening: “I always love coming to the Champions of CycleSport dinner and I’m proud to support it! The CycleSport dinner is a celebration of all that’s great about cycling – in the UK as a whole and in particular the rides that Action Medical Research has put on over the past year. It’s been another really great evening.”
