DfT gives British Cycling’s Bikeability courses seal of approval

ITO status given to organisation
Publish date:

British Cycling’s Bikeability courses have been granted ‘Instructor Training Organisation’ status by the Department for Transport.

The move means British Cycling is now recognised as a fit for purpose organisation to deliver instructor training in line with National Standards.

John Mills, British Cycling’s coaching, education and development director, welcomed the DfT’s seal of approval.

He said: "This really is great news for British Cycling. Our Cycle Training team have worked tirelessly to develop a high quality Bikeability Instructor Training programme, so to be awarded the status of ‘Instructor Training Organisation’ is a great recognition of their efforts. Plans are also afoot to increase our delivery of Cycle Training, as we look forward to spreading the benefits of Bikeability to more people across the country throughout 2011 and beyond.

"We have also put together a membership product for existing instructors as they look to join an Instructor Training Organisation. We are now in a position where we can not only offer a great experience in becoming a qualified Instructor but also a valuable membership and support package."
