The two largest bicycle manufacturers in Taiwan – Giant and Merida – are expected to record another set of record financials.

Needless to say, production lines are working to full capacity to cope with the worldwide demand, something expected to continue through to at least mid-2009. Lead times are expected to gradually decline as both manufacturers push for earlier deliveries.

August saw record monthly revenues for both exporters, with Giant earning US52.19 million and Merida following with US39.94 million. Merida has now set a strong prediction for the third quarter, stating that the company expects to produce 40 per cent more bicycles than the same period last year.

Additionally, Giant's new production line in its Taiwan-based plant is set to begin assembly very shortly.

Giant's managing director in the UK, Ian Beasant commented: "Large increases in the lifestyle segment and higher than anticipated demands for Giant's new Road platform have played a key role in the factories success"
