NightBrightTyre has developed Cyglo – a wheel-based safety device for road cyclists.

UPDATE: Cyglo is a new name for the product (once known as Halo). The name change came to avoid confusion with the Ison-distributed Halo brand.

The Cyglo tyre uses tough, durable, bright and long-lasting LED bulbs embedded into the tyre tread or wall to create a ring of high powered light, drastically hightening the visibility of cyclists to other road users.

We've got pics here and here.

The Cyglo tyre also offers coloured and flashing light options for BMX, MTB and for cyclists looking to stand out.

Patented across the UK and US, the innovative tyres were designed by James Tristram. The tyres won a BBC TV award for Best Invention in 2002 and gained the input of entrepreneur Dominic Killinger. Killinger caught Tristram's attention after an appearance on BBC TV's Dragon's Den and the investor is now chairman of NightBrightTyre.

According to the firm, the Lord Mayor's office and the Metropolitan Police are among those that have expressed an interest in using Cyglo tyres.
