JD Sports takes controlling interest in Alpine Bikes parent

Undisclosed sum paid to give JD Sports controlling interest in Edinburgh's Tiso Group
Publish date:

Following its acquisition of Blacks Leisure last year, JD Sports has now taken a controlling interest in the Tiso Group, owner of Edinburgh's Alpine bikes.

The first Tiso branch opened in the city in 1962 and the group has since grown to own ten outlets in Scoltand, including the George Fisher and Blues ski stores.

Chris Tiso is to be retained as chief executive of the group.

David McCorquodale, from KPMG, told the BBC: "The outdoor retail market is consolidating and scale with national coverage is an important aspect of meeting consumer needs."

"To bring the Tiso brand into an ambitious larger group that can offer the full range of choice is a logical step for the Tiso family to take.

"For JD Sports, there is plenty of opportunity for further development of a business which has market leaders in Tiso, George Fisher, Alpine Bikes and Blues skiing."
