London Cycling Campaign teams with International Cycling History Conference for celebration of the bicycle - BikeBiz
LCC, Bike Week and International Cycling History Conference to celebrate cycling in June at Guildhall event.

As reported at the weekend the historic City of London Corporation is to host the annual International Cycle History Conference in the Guildhall in June.

London Cycling Campaign has now revealed it will stage its awards evening during the event. There will also be a tie-up with Bike Week, making the event into a joined-up celebration of cycling then and now.

The City of London Corporation’s Active City Network business community will also be at the event promoting walking and cycling for businesses and residents. There will also be a bike ride sponsored by the Chinese dockless firm Ofo.

LCC CEO Ashok Sinha said: “This three-day celebration offers a great opportunity to reflect on the history of the bicycle and consider its journey towards the future – a future where ebikes and dockless bike share are helping shape the way forward.”

City of London Corporation's planning and transportation chair Chris Hayward said: “We are thrilled to welcome the celebration of cycling to the Square Mile. The importance of cycling both as a mode of transport and of enjoyment is recognised in many of our policies and we celebrate this each year as annual hosts of the Rapha Nocturne festival of cycling."

He added: "We have among the highest rates of cycling in the UK with over 50 percent of commuter journeys in the City made by bike at peak times. Over 85 percent of our one-way streets are converted to cycle contra-flows, there is a City-wide 20mph speed limit, we have introduced dockless hire bikes, two Quietway cycle routes and there is the ongoing experimental safety scheme at Bank junction. We want to make sure that the City is safer and more accessible for people who cycle.”
