Cycling icon Mark Beaumont joined forces with Sustrans to promote the National Cycle Network in Scotland.

The video, which was produced by Sustrans Scotland and directed by Stefan Morocco, features views of cycling routes in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Falkirk, Stirlingshire, and the Forth and Clyde and Union Canals.

It is intended to promote accessible, everyday leisure cycling routes around Scotland’s towns and cities, and to provide inspiration by showcasing some of the iconic landmarks and visitor attractions which are often only a short bike ride away.

Beaumont commented: “You don't need to cycle around the world to become an adventure cyclist. There are so many everyday pedal-powered adventures on our doorsteps. The inspiration for making this Sustrans film was to showcase familiar places from a different perspective and also to discover new journeys by bicycle. Even in an hour or two you can explore superb routes, all you need is two wheels and an open mind.”

Scottish government transport minister Humza Yousaf added: “Our National Cycle Network is our second most valuable walking and cycling asset in Scotland. Our first, of course, is the people who make over 63 million annual trips on the 2,300 miles of on and off road paths, in some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. I would encourage everyone to find out where their nearest NCN route is and give it a try for shorter journeys and for longer days out with family and friends. Being active and having fun at the same time is a wonderful way to spend your day especially if it can be part of your daily routine.”

The development of the National Cycle Network in Scotland is supported by Transport Scotland and the Scottish Government. The Network passes within a mile of half of all UK homes across the length and breadth of the UK.
