Public beats the trade in Fastest Wrench competition

The gloves are off: A member of the public manages to complete the challenge faster than all trade competitors

Ex-mechanic Adam Gajecki won the latest Cytech Fastest Wrench competition at this year's London Bike Show, marking the first year that a member of the trade was pipped at the post by a member of the public.

Record numbers - 200 - took part in the competition at the ExCeL show over the three days, including professional mechanics with decades of experience, novice mechanic Girl Scouts and an Army bomb disposal robot.

Last year's runner up, Cedric Crooks, again took second place.

No one managed to trouble the all-time fastest ever entrant of 44.62 seconds, but according to Cytech, this year's winner clocked up just a few seconds more so it's looking likely that the record won't last for much longer.

There's more on the competition here.
