Scarborough and Whitby MP Robert Goodwill has become Parliamentary Under Secretary at the Department for Transport, with a remit that includes 'responsibility for cycling'.

The news follows last week's reshuffle, which saw Norman Baker lose his cycle brief at the DfT for a more senior cabinet position at the Home Office. Susan Kramer took over Baker's role, but – as the CTC speculated – the cycle part of the job has instead been passed on to Goodwill.

According to The Scarborough News (via the MP's own site), Goodwill said: “There are some big challenges ahead, not least HS2, which is vital to meet the growing capacity needs of the country’s railways.

"I am delighted to have cycling too, it’s a big passion of mine as people know.”
