Silverfish blitzes turnover record

Distributor enjoys its biggest turnover month of all time with sales of £1.2m in October

Silverfish UK, the Cornwall based distributor and recent winner of a BikeBiz Award, has just set a new monthly sales record, turning over £1.2m in October.

The firm revealed to BikeBiz that this represents growth of 30 per cent on October 2012.

Silverfish Managing Director Darren Mabbott cited a number of factors had come together to deliver this impressive growth: “The new Mondraker 2014 range has pre-booked phenomenally well with IBDs, Race Face’s 2014 line-up is probably the brand’s strongest in its 25 year history and their new Next SL cranks, Turbine pedals and 35mm cockpit all dropped in October. Yeti’s recent launch of their 27.5-inch SB75 also landed in the UK towards the end of the month, and October represents the 2014 launch of the new range of EVOC backpacks and travel luggage.

"With that much happening, plus continued strong sales across all of our performance brands, it wasn’t a huge surprise to see the numbers so high.”

This topped off a successful year for the distributor, which said it had seen strong sales from all brands within its portfolio. What may come as a surprise is that Silverfish’s biggest growth brand in 2013 was the Spanish road giant Spiuk.

Mabbott added: “It’s been a cracking year for Silverfish and Spiuk, we’ve seen Y-o-Y growth of 126 per cent and most encouragingly, the growth has been across all Spiuk product categories helmets, eyewear, shoes, triathlon and softgoods. The line-up for 2014 is even stronger which means this growth is set to continue”.

Looking ahead, the Silverfish boss told BikeBiz he's very positive about the future: “The second quarter of 2013 was pretty challenging for the bike trade, the weather really didn’t help early season sales, but we managed to rescue the season after the bumper summer.

"2014 looks very encouraging: We’ve got a couple new brands up our sleeves, Race Face and EVOC 2014 both look fantastic, we expect to see continued growth from Turner with the new 27.5-inch Flux running alongside the popular Burner, e13 have an impressive new range of wheels and cranks, the launch of the SDG Bel Air 2.0 in January, Yeti will no doubt have a few surprises in store for us all, Evil have had a great comeback season, and we expect to see more riders getting on-board with the whole Mondraker Forward Geometry philosophy.

"When you combine all this with our dealer support programme, our infamous Zombie Tech Support truck, and the continued pro-activity of our Sales and Marketing teams, I think we’ve got plenty of good stuff to be looking forward to.”
