Future-facing cycle technologies to be discussed at Australian industry seminar

Smart tech – as in "self-monitoring and reporting technologies" – isn't just for phones. According to a multi-agency seminar that will be staged in Australia next month the world of cycling needs to also grasp this particular nerd nettle.

"The future of the bicycle and the bicycle industry is smart," says the Smart Technologies seminar due to be staged in Melbourne on 7th June. Part of a new series of "Future Seminars" this one is co-organised by TAITRA, Taiwan's trade development body and will feature bike tech that will be displayed at the Taipei Cycle Show 2018.

The seminar – sponsored by China Airlines, Taipei Cycle Show, The Bicycle Industry Association and Knog – will be held at the Melbourne Conference & Exhibition Centre and is being organised jointly by TAITRA and veteran cycle consultant Jonathon Nunan of Better Bike Business.

Speakers include academics and industry stalwarts, and there will be discussions of artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, and the so-called Internet of Things.

Seminars speakers include Bill Petreski, a University of Melbourne professor; facial recognition expert Dr Kuan-Jiuh Lin of National Chung-Hsing University; the Cycling Promotion Fund's Peter Bourke; and Knog co-founder and CEO Hugo Davidson.
