The Edinburgh Bike Station has reopened today after more than seven months of renovation works on the property.

The store – which was originally closed due to a break and a fire that damaged the shop, training space and office – was officially reopened today by cycling medallist Louise Haston.

Thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign which saw the charity raise £16K in donations from members of the public in just two weeks, the shop floor and office space have been repaired and renovated, with more space for adults and children’s refurbished second-hand bikes – helping to keep more bikes out of landfill.

There is a dedicated area for the popular Fix Your Own Bike sessions, at which members of the public come along on a Wednesday and Saturday to fix their own bike, with the help of Bike Station mechanics and volunteers.

A new purpose built training space has also been created to ensure the community outreach work and educational programs the charity is known for can continue to be run, such as the build your own bike courses that provide opportunities for disadvantaged youths.

Staff member Jenny Baker told BikeBiz: ”It has been a long time coming. We have had a pretty rough winter but with all the support from the public, the successful crowdfunder and all the well wishes we have received, the staff have kept their spirits up. It’s a testament to them that we are doing so well. We can't wait to welcome everyone back in.”

Manager of The Bike Station Steve Hynd added "Thankfully due to the amazing support of the public and the outstanding work of the staff, we are very happy to announce the opening of the refurbished new look Bike Station on the 16th of May. We thoroughly look forward to welcoming everyone and thank you all again for your support."
