Independent transport planning specialist Phil Jones Associates has been appointed to a consortium with engineering consultancies WSP and Mott Macdonald to support the development of the first Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans by local authorities across England.
A team of project managers will provide support to 35 local authorities that have been awarded LCWIP assistance by the Department for Transport. PJA is also supplying a team of renowned experts in transport planning, infrastructure design, road safety and public health to provide additional specialist inputs and capture good practice.
The development and creation of LCWIPs is an important part of the Government’s Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy – which aims to increase cycling and walking by making them the natural choices for shorter journeys or part of a longer journey.

PJA, WSP and Mott MacDonald will work with a range of unitary, county and combined authorities to develop LCWIPs that cover different scales and address many different transport challenges.
The three specialist companies have been appointed to the project by the DfT following their previous work producing the LCWIP guidance and involvement in Highways England’s Cycling, Safety and Integration programme.
